Harold Cohen RIP

Artist who pioneered art with code and robotics passed away on the 27th of April 2016.

He developed AARON, code which could generate unique visual compositions in 1973, starting with abstract and later with more representational subjects in the 80s and 90s. In the 90s, these compositions were then drawn and painted by plotters onto canvas. Here is a video of a brief interview with the artist:

The Martian (2015) dir. Ridley Scott It’s a strange feeling. Everywhere I go, I’m the first. Step outside the rover? First guy ever to be there! Climb a hill? First guy to climb that hill! Kick a rock? That rock hadn’t moved in a million years! I’m the first guy to drive long-distance on Mars. The first guy to spend more than thirty-one sols on Mars. The first guy to grow crops on Mars. First, first, first!

I should reach the frontier in about six weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up.
